If we think back to how humans have evolved, Men always enjoyed intense pleasures and taking risks. When men used to hunt, they knew death can occur anytime, but they enjoyed the risk and it was an intense "high" such as drugs give its users. During wars, again men knew they would die during the war, but yet they faught because of the intense thrill. The power of this intense pleasure is so absorbent that during wars the army forced men to join wars with they speech about patriotism. Now, just as there are the men that enjoy high intense pleasure, there are also the men that dislike these risks and pleasures. Back in the tribal times, these animals were often overpowered and sometimes ill treated by the dominant males who used to hunt. However, during civilization power of speech was in effect and so men who disliked risks avoided it at all costs, except during wars where in some countries most men were forced to join them.
Drugs had the same effect on people back in the 70s where the teenagers and young adults were the rebellions such as hippies, gangsters etc. However, you don't see most old people nowadays who are rebels still doing drugs.Instead, its the new generation adolescents and young adults that are smoking, drinking, doing drugs and having sex are young ages. For example, drugs like cocaine provide the pleasure that is equal to or higher than the pleasure sex provides and "they are all correlated because they are aspects of intensity seeking sensation. Similarly, there are the difference between high and low sensation seekers. The high sensation seekers pick a drug and stick to it, which becomes an addiction. Where as, the low sensation seeker tries many different drugs. This is because of the intense pleasure that drugs give its users and men do it, regardless of the risks.
Same with sports, where there are sports like sky diving, water rafting, skiing, for which people with high sensation seek to volunteer to love these kinds of sports over football, soccer, hockey. Another thing we must understand in that the peak of seeking intense pleasure and risks were always in the adolescent phase and young adults, and started to come down as they grew older. Back from the tribal times to wars and even now.
Nowadays, young drivers are responsible for most car accidents. As stated in the video, "they use their cars as a vehicle for thrill and venture seeking". Thrill and venture seeking are the same as sensation seeking, because its not addictive. A young driver may love the thrill in driving fast, tailgating, etc., but when they get into trouble they learn from it. So, not all young drivers seek the thrill and excitement in driving unsafe.
