Senator Ted Kennedy was first elected in 1962 and for 46 years he served as the US Senate making him the fourth longest serving senator in US History. He was the youngest in the Kennedy family. His brothers former President - John F. Kennedy and former US Senate Robert F. Kennedy were both victims of assassination.
In his last interview, which is 5 minutes long, the most important message I got out of it was the importance of knowing the history of where we come from. He states, "my brother had been elected to the congress and he asked me whether I wanted a tour of Washington and I welcomed the opportunity". His brother showed him the house of representatives, the United States Senate, the Supreme Court of US, pointed out the White House, and then Senator Kennedy says, "He gave advice to me then which stuck with me, I was probably 12 years old at the time, he said 'look you'll visit the buildings now...but the really important things of this visit is that you take an interest in what is happened inside these buildings for the rest of your life'." The significance of this advice is that Senator Kennedy belives that the "only way this democracy is going to work is if people take the interest, take the time". and recognize your history, since the effort of millions of people make your country a great country.
When asked about what his inspirations were, the Senator stated, "Witnessed great success, my brothers achievement but i think that the values of our society are worth fighting for, and i see people who struggle and struggle very hard that try and make a difference, which inspires me." In addition, he also states, "America is not just a land, its a promise....programs change and time change but values really don't change."
Senator Ted Kennedy emphasizes knowing our country's history and recognizing the people who play a major role in the country. This means everyone from the Presidents, Prime Ministers, Politicians, to the School Teachers, Health Care Workers etc, who play a huge role in the values of the society. What I learnt from this video is when we appreciate the past, and recognize the significance of the people that shape our lives, we appreciate today, and we know what's right to fight for. We build our inspirations by recognizing roles of people in the society. Inspiration can come from mentors, families, and our surroundings, which makes a part of everything. A part of history.
